Through our United for Community program, we are committed to the spirit of volunteerism, supporting local schools, and safeguarding the financial wellness of families in our community.
Volunteerism
Our employees love to volunteer! That's why we do it together – on company time. But the best part is supporting our community.
You may have seen us gardening and working at local schools, packing and sorting food at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and teaching financial wellness to students and at-risk individuals, among other things. To inquire about volunteers for your non-profit group, please email us.

A Long History Serving Alameda County
1st United was founded in 1932 by a group of Alameda County employees who pooled together their funds to help their neighbors. This is the foundation upon which we were built – people helping people.
Charitable Giving
We have had the privilege of supporting local non-profits and schools through donations and volunteering. Here's a little more about the programs we’ve created and the deserving organizations that have received support.
Alameda County Community Food Bank
1st United is a supporter of Alameda County Community Food Bank. Throughout the year, we volunteer at and donate to the Food Bank. We have also been a proud sponsor of the Oakland A’s Homeruns for Hunger program since 2012. For every home run the A's hit during the regular season, we pledge to donate $50 to the Food Bank. Go A's!
Toys for Tots
During the holiday season, our branches become a collection center for Toys for Tots. In partnership with the Alameda County Marine Toys for Tots, our staff, members, and community donate toys that are distributed locally. It’s a joy to bring smiles to hundreds of children each year!
Alternative Family Services
For many years, 1st United has supported Alternative Family Services. AFS is a foster, adoption, and mental health agency that has been creating safe, permanent connections for foster children and youth in the Bay Area since 1978. We have provided outreach to the agency through monetary donations, backpack and school supplies, and dozens of bikes each year that are distributed at their annual holiday party.
Fundraising for Schools
1st United is dedicated to supporting local schools in Alameda County with our unique fundraising program. This turn-key program is available to just about any school and offers incentives for both the student and the school. For more information, visit 1stunited.org/schools.
