Being a good neighbor is at the heart of what we do and an important way we fulfill our credit union purpose of People Helping People. We celebrate our community by investing time and money where our members live, work and play. Through our United for Community program, we are committed to the spirit of volunteerism, supporting local schools, and safeguarding the financial wellness of families in our community. Here are some of the ways we give back.
Our employees love to volunteer and 1st United makes it a priority for them to do so during the regular work day. Volunteering is an excellent employee benefit and team builder for our staff. But the best part is supporting our community.
Team members have been seen gardening and working at local schools, packing and sorting food at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and teaching financial wellness to students and at-risk individuals, among other things.
We are always looking for new ways to help out our community. To inquire about volunteering for your non-profit group, please email us.
- Financial Education
We have had the privilege of donating to local non-profits. Here are examples of the programs we’ve created, and the deserving organizations that have received support.
Alameda County Community Food Bank
1st United, in partnership with 95.7 THE GAME, has been a proud sponsor of the Oakland A’s Homeruns for Hunger program since 2012 and the Golden State Warriors Hoops for Hunger program since 2015.
Over the past five years, we've donated over $45,000 to the Alameda County Community Food Bank as a result of these programs. We are honored to have an opportunity to support our local teams while helping to feed Alameda County. Go A’s! Go Dubs!
Toys for Tots
During the holiday season, our branches become a collection center for Toys for Tots. In partnership with the Livermore Pleasanton Firefighters IAFF Local 1974, our staff, members, and community donate toys that are distributed locally. It’s a joy to bring smiles to hundreds of children each year.
Alternative Family Services
For several years, 1st United has provided support for Alternative Family Services. AFS is a foster, adoptions and mental health agency that has been creating safe, permanent connections for foster children and youth in the Bay Area since 1978. Through connections at the credit union, we have provided outreach to the agency with monetary donations, backpack and school supplies, and dozens of bikes each year that are distributed at their annual holiday party. Additionally, 1st United’s own barbeque team, Bad to the Bone, provide lunch for the party.
Fundraising for Schools
1st United is dedicated to supporting local schools in Alameda County with our unique fundraising program. This turn-key program is available to just about any school and offers incentives for both the student and the school. For more information, visit 1stunited.org/schools.
