Telephone numbers and text messages can be spoofed

Cybercriminals have found a way to impersonate telephone numbers and text messages so you may think it's 1st United contacting you. If you are unsure, call us at (800) 649-0193 to confirm the message is from us.

Types of calls & texts

There are several versions of this scam. Here are a few scenarios that we've heard are being used:

  • Criminals spoof our telephone numbers or text messages. When you get the call or text, you think it's from 1st United.
  • Member receives an automated voice message validating the last four digits of their card number, then requesting the security code from the back of the card. This could be in relation to a fraud alert.
  • A text claims there may be fraud on your 1st United account, requesting that you confirm a transaction. After you respond yes or no to the validity of the transaction, the criminal will call you asking for you to provide a secure access code that was sent to your phone. We will NEVER ask you for a secure access code. Do not provide this information to anyone. If you are concerned there might be fraud on your account, call us immediately at (800) 649-0193.
  • Member receives a call from someone claiming they are with 1st United, telling them that their money is no longer safe at the Credit Union and offering to help them transfer it out. A version of this includes the scammer claiming they are with an investigative unit at 1st United and that employees are stealing members' money. The scammer instructs the member to go to the branch to transfer the money out and coaches the member to tell the teller that it's for investment purposes.
