As your Credit Union, we’re considered an essential business – one that’s proud to continue serving the residents of Alameda County, Contra Costa County and our surrounding areas however we can. That means while you’re staying at home, 1st United Credit Union is working hard to make you feel safe while providing convenient access to your accounts.

Although we’re continuing to update our website with the latest information related to your accounts and services, we wanted to answer the most frequently asked questions we’ve received related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Is my money safe at 1st United Credit Union?

In a word, yes. Your deposits are federally insured up to $250,000 by The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an agency of the U.S. Government and the strongest of the federal deposit insurance funds. In fact, not one penny of NCUA-insured money has ever been lost by a member.

If you own share accounts in different ownership categories, like single owner accounts, joint accounts, certain retirement accounts, revocable trust accounts, or irrevocable trust accounts, you may qualify for even more coverage. Individual retirement accounts are insured separately up to $250,000.

Which 1st United branches are open right now?

All our branches are open to members from Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Several branches are open Saturdays, too. VIEW HOURS

As a reminder, Alameda County requires members of the public to wear face coverings without valves when around people outside of their household. While visiting our branches, please remember to bring your face coverings. For the safety of our staff and members, 1st United Credit Union will continue to wear masks while following CDC and local health officials’ guidelines.

Do I have to visit a branch?

No. If you’d prefer to stay at home, we’re happy to offer online and mobile banking services to help meet your financial needs. Here are a few ways you can bank from home:

  • Pay bills online, review your transaction history, set up account alerts, and more with online banking from 1st United Credit Union. Enroll in online banking from your phone or computer, or contact us at (800) 649-0193 to get started.
  • With mobile banking, you can perform these same tasks and more – including mobile deposit. This feature lets you deposit checks from anywhere, simply by taking a photo of your paper check using your smartphone or tablet. Download the free 1st United Credit Union mobile app in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
  • All 1st United ATMs are fully operational, giving you 24/7 access to withdraw funds, make deposits, transfer money from one account to another, and more. And, because we’re part of the nationwide CO-OP ATM Network, you won’t be charged a fee. Find nearby ATMs online or by texting your ZIP code to 91989.

What if I need financial assistance?

At 1st United Credit Union, we believe that being a good neighbor is at the heart of what we do. Here are a few ways we’re helping our members during this time:

  • 1st United is offering payment extensions on credit cards, auto, personal, mortgage, and home equity loans and lines of credit for members financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Please contact us for assistance at (800) 649-0193, extension 4710.
  • We’ve partnered with BALANCE, a financial education and counseling service, to offer free, unbiased money management information and debt consolidation assistance to 1st United members. Depending on your situation, BALANCE counselors may be able to connect you with other programs and services during your time of need. To get started, call (888) 456-2227 and let them know that 1st United Credit Union sent you.
  • In most cases, we automatically apply deposits that members make to cover negative balances on their accounts. However, to ensure that you and other 1st United members have access to the entirety of the CARES Act stimulus funds you receive, Economic Impact Payments will not be applied to cover negative balances in overdrawn accounts.
  • If you’re a 1st United member and a small business owner, you can apply for loan and credit card deferments as they relate to your 1st United accounts by calling us at (800) 649-0193, extension 4710. Please be aware that 1st United is not an SBA-approved lender. For information on SBA loans, please visit sba.gov. We also recommend connecting with your local Chamber of Commerce for additional resources, including SBA disaster assistance and operational guidelines.
